HOW SCIENCE IS REVEALED IN THE BIBLE
(posted: February 2010)
* All scripture references are from the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Bible, unless otherwise noted.
It is the history of science rather than science itself that Proves God. Science changes, history does not. A scientific phenomena exists, but the scientific explanation of the phenomena may change. Eggs are good for our health; eggs are bad for our health; eggs are once again good for our health. The chickens are the same and the eggs are the same, but the science about the eggs keeps changing. When I go to the store now, I only buy six eggs because the chickens and I are confused by the science of eggs.
History is not like that. History is what it is. It does not have to be interpreted or figured out. In terms of history proving God, all that is necessary is to know the accurate date and major details of the event. Then, simply look the dates up in the biblical patterns as previously described. It is easy with a little practice. Two abbreviated examples to bring the reader up to speed include the eruption of Krakatoa and the earthquake in Haiti.
Krakatoa erupted on August 27, 1883 and was the “biggest bang” in recorded history. The sound traveled nearly 3,000 miles, the pyroclastic flow screamed across the Soenda Straits killing thousands, and the ensuing tsunami waves killed tens of thousands. Could the God who created the heavens and the earth accomplish such a feat of geological dexterity? A quick read of Psalms 83 (1883) vv 13-18 strongly suggests that He can and did. A gripping account of the details can be found in Simon Winchester’s book, Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded. For more details in the scriptures, look at the day patterns in Job 27 (August 27) and Ezekiel 27 (August 27). Note specifically Job 27: 11, 12, 20-22. Verses 11 and 12 show us how to recognize the hand of God while verses 20-22 describe the event. Ezekiel 27 describes how the ships and cities were destroyed by the heaving seas, very similar to the events Mr. Winchester so skillfully described in his book.
On January 12, 2010, a moderately large earthquake caused tremendous damage and loss of life in Port-au-Prince, the seat of the Haitian national government. Could God’s hand have been involved in judging Haiti as Pat Robertson suggested? Again the evidence suggests God’s hand was involved. Psalms 110 (2010) vv. 1-3, 5, 6 describes God filling the places with dead bodies, high ranking officials being killed, and many volunteers coming to their aid in the day of God’s power. Ezekiel 12 (January 12), in the day patterns, details cities being laid waste and people digging through the walls. The Job passage in the Krakatoa example exhorts us to recognize the hand of God when it is revealed.
- I will teach you about the hand of God;
what is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
- Surely all of you have seen;
Why then do you behave with complete nonsense?
Job 27:11, 12
The biblical patterns reveal God’s hand and demonstrate His fearsome power. The historical record, as recently as yesterday, proves God with evidence – not opinion.
Science is not as cut and dried as history. Science is our best explanation for what is. The universe began, and currently the “Big Bang Theory” is our best explanation for how it began. There are other competing explanations, and there may be even better explanations in the future. The origin of the universe won’t change, but the explanation might. While we cannot say with certainty how the universe first appeared, we can certainly say when the theories of the universe first appeared. The years most closely associated with the Big Bang are 1927, 1948, 1949 and 1965. These years can be looked up easily in the Psalms’ year patterns, as they are the historical record of science. The history of the science of the Big Bang is then revealed in the scriptures. God is magnified by the theory of the Big Bang in the process, without the assistance of a deep space telescope. The evidence is right there on the printed page.
In Galileo’s attempt to appease the Catholic Church 400 years ago, he spoke of two books – the book of nature (science) and the book of scripture (God). He explained that since God was the author of both books, they could not be in conflict. He believed it was up to the theologians to reinterpret God’s book to match nature’s book. Stephen J. Gould famously stated that science and religion exist in non-overlapping magisteria. Each should stay in their own domain and not comment on the other. Unfortunately for political correctness, the God of the Bible never seemed to be a God of compromise. He did not relegate Himself only to questions of moral meaning and values. He insisted on being the God who created the heavens, the earth, the seas and all that are in them -- the universe.
A recent conference in Rome met on the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s earth/sun observations to discuss these very issues. Are there two books as Galileo suggested or two magisterium as Gould suggested? Are they overlapping or non-overlapping? Is one truth and the other fiction? Philosopher and scientist, Marcello Pera was one of those who addressed this summit of philosophers, scientists and theologians. He expressed the hope that one day “another Thomas Aquinas or Immanuel Kant” would present to the world a unified theory of science and religion.
Proves God believes that day has arrived, and that the two books of Galileo not only overlap; they are superimposed. Proves God further postulates that the book of science owes it’s very existence to the book of God. The unified theory of science and religion already exists and can be found in the year patterns God established in the Psalms and the day patterns God established in the books of Moses, major prophets and the gospels. These unifying patterns hold true for any year of recorded history.
For every house is built by someone, but
He who built all things is God.
By faith we understand that the worlds
were framed by the word of God …
God builds the house. God frames the world.
Without God, there is no house.
Without God, there is no world.
